FAQ - Therapeutic Community

Who pays for my treatment if I'm not working?
The Cyrenian House welfare worker will apply for a Centrelink Benefit on your behalf. However, for those who do not qualify for a Centrelink benefit please discuss with your counsellor prior to admission.
 
Can I detox at Cyrenian House?
No. Cyrenian House may refer you for detoxification prior to entry into the TC. This will discussed during your assessment.
 
Can I go to rehab on subutex?
No. However, you may discuss this with your counsellor during your assessment.
 
Is the program religious?
No. However, Cyrenian House encourages spiritual practice such as 'meditation', 'yoga' and 'personal honesty'.
 
Can I go to work while living there?
Once you have completed 4th stage of the program, you may be able to engage in employment, higher education or voluntary work whilst residing within the Cyrenian House Therapeutic Community.
 
Can I have visitors?
Once you have completed two weeks of the program your counsellor may authorise you to have visitors on visiting days. This is subject to your continued commitment to the program.
 
When can I see my children?
Cyrenian House recognises the need to see your children and follows Family Sensitive Practice Guidelines. Discuss this with your counsellor.
 
Do I have to give up my Homeswest property?
Not necessarily, the Cyrenian House welfare worker may be able to assist and advocate on your behalf with Department of Housing regarding this matter.
 
Can I take my pets and car out there?
Although we like them, pets are not allowed due to the wild life surrounding the Therapeutic Community. There are restrictions on bringing your vehicle to the TC. Speak to your counsellor on assessment.
 
Do I have to share a room?
Every room has two beds, so expect to share depending on numbers. You may eventually not have to share a bedroom.
 
How long before I can go in?
This depends on the pool of individuals also waiting for admission which varies from month to month. Please ask your counsellor at the time of assessment. The counsellor will provide you with as much information as possible.
 
Are there any Aboriginal workers?
Yes. Cyrenian House employs indigenous staff to ensure the environment is culturally secure for Aboriginal clients.
